【用法】 动词 compare 当“比较”讲时，可接 to 或 with(见(1));如指详细地研究以进行比较时，通常用with。表示不同事物之间的“比拟”时接 to(见(2))。

【辨异】compare与contrast都指将两个或多个事物放在一起研究以发现其特性。compare指比较类似的和同类的事物以发现其异同，如：compare one sample with the other(拿一个样品和另一个比);contrast(对照，对比)指比较不相同的和不同类的事物以使差异突出，如：contrast good with/and evil(将善与恶进行对比)。
