adv(1)在(向)一边(on or to one side)：stand/step/turn～to let sb pass (for sb to pass) 站/走/转向一边以让某人过去;turn～from the main road 拐下大道;draw the curtain/push a person/lay a look/throw a letter/move a table～ 把窗帘拉向/把一个人推向/把书放到/把信扔到/把桌子挪到一边;He took her～and talked business.他把她领到一边说事情。

(2)(临时)搁置一边(out of the way;away(esp for a limited time))：put one's work～把工作搁下;Put your book～for a few minutes and have a rest.把书放一放，休息一下。

(3)撇开(不考虑)(away from one's thoughts or consideration)：put one's cares/one's fears/any idea of a holiday～撇开忧虑/恐惧/任何休假的念头;brush sb's protests/one's ideas～把某人的抗议/自己的想法撇一边;Joking～，we had a wonderful time.玩笑归玩笑，我们玩得非常痛快。

set aside 1)放在一边;不考虑：He set～the book and reached for his cigarettes.他把书放到一边然后伸手去够香烟。set～all formalities不拘泥礼节;2)使失败，取消：The decision/new law/verdict was set～.该决定/新法律/陪审团的裁决取消了。3)专门留出：set～a room for playing card games/some time for one's exercises/the tinned food for a possible emergency 留出一个房间用来打牌/留出一些时间来锻炼/留出罐头食品以备急需;

aside from 除了(AmE，= apart from)：A～from the expense，it would be inconvenient.除了贵，还会不方便。They had no more food，～from a few rolls.除了几个面包圈，他们没有别的食物了。

n(1)(说给观众的)旁白(words spoken by an actor to the audience but not to the other character on the stage)[C];

(2)低声的耳语(words spoken so as not to be heard by others present)[C]：She whispered an～to him.她对他耳语了几句。

【注意】aside与a side语义不同：aside是“在一边”;a side是“(在每)一边”如：They sat seven a side.(他们每边坐七个人。)

【说明】 aside from是 AmE，在BrE中现已广泛使用，但语言纯正主义者仍主张使用apart from或except、excluding(这些也用于AmE中)。
