1. story故事。
tales devised: forged or false stories捏造的故事，不真实的故事。

2. talk谈话。
sweet tale: loving words甜言蜜语。
△1H. IV. 2. 4. 136(121):“that melted at the sweet tale of the sun’s?”那牛油听了太阳的甜言蜜语就融化了。
3. story,talk,anything told故事，话题，说头。
△ As. 27. 28:“And thereby hangs a tale.” i. e. there is some-thing to say about that; something more might be saidon the subject,i. e. as to the brevity of life.在这上面大有感慨可发（指人生短暂）。

7. lie谎言。
△Mid.3.2.133: “and both as light astales.”二者都是虚飘如谎言一般。
△Ado.4.2.33 (30):“they are both in a tale.”i.e.they are in collusion:they are agreed on the same lie. 他们串通好了，招供一致。8. (quibbling on) tail = penis （同音双关）尾巴(=男生殖器)。
