【辨异】1) 动词display与exhibit都可表示把某物给他人看。display 指把某物展开以让人能很好地看清楚;exhibit(展示，展出)指把某物完全展现于一有利位置以便于观看，如：exhibit the best flowers at a special show(在一专门展览会上展出最好的花卉)。这两个动词都可用于表示“显露”(人的品质)或“流露”(人的情感)，如：display fear(流露出恐惧);exhibit great surprise(流露出惊异的表情);还有manifest(流露出)，此字只可用于表示“显露”(人的品质)和“流露”(人的情感)，如：manifest surprise/interest/sympathy(流露出惊讶/兴趣/同情)。2) 名词display与show 都可指多少有点故意、常常自负地做来给公众看的样子。show(显示，炫耀)指不一定与事实相符的外表样子，如：a show of modesty(显出谦逊的样子);display 指有意地做出引人注目的样子，如;a great display of wealth(大肆炫耀财富);还有ostentation(炫耀，卖弄)指自负的、怀有野心的、令人反感的显示，如：tasteless and vulgar ostentation(庸俗的卖弄);还有pomp(炫耀，浮华)指隆重礼仪上的那种尊严与权威的显耀，如：The coronation was carried out with pomp and ceremony.(加冕仪式非常隆重庄严。)
