【辨异】conversation与talk和discussion都可表示多个人之间的谈话。conversation(谈话)指非正式的友好交谈，以交流思想和信息;talk(谈话，谈论)是表示说话这一行为的通常用语，如：have a talk with sb about sth(与某人谈某事)，用作不可数名词时，泛指语言活动，如：Talk is very important in a child's development.(谈话对幼儿的智力发展很重要。)用作可数名词时，还可指听众不多时所做的非正式的短时间报告，如：give a talk(做报告)，如用于复数，则常指政治家之间的正式的会谈，如：hold peace talks(举行和平谈判);discussion(讨论，谈话)指正式的交换意见，为了严肃的目的进行的商讨，如：hold a discussion about the role of women in modern society(讨论现代社会中妇女作用的问题)。还有 gossip(闲言碎语)是贬义词，指对别人私生活的指责议论，如：be fond of gossip(爱说闲话)。
