【用法】 appointment 表示 “任命，委派”(见(1)1))时，其后介词的用法同动词appoint;当表示“约会”(见(2)2))时，其后用介词with以引出与之约会的人，用at(最常见)或for表示约会的时间(当说话者想着的是约定的时间而不是约会本身时用后者)。

【辨异】appointment与office、post² 和station都可表示“职位”。appointment指要求有特殊资格的职位;office(公职)指委以信任、具有权威的职位(尤指政府部门中者);post(职位，工作)在美国限指军队及其他公共部门中的职位，在英国可指任何职位;station(职位，岗位)指工作和职责的范围，强调所做工作的位置。
