Everyone had submitted at the mere rumour of his coming. He had conducted his campaign with unstained swords as far as Yidu.
❍ 故近者亲其善，远方慕其义； ～，远迩来服，德盛于此，施及四极。(《荀子》158) Those nearby were won by their goodness,and those far off were filled with longing by their virtue. They did not stain their swords with blood,and yet near and far alike submitted; their virtue flourished in the center and spread to the four quaters.
