【用法】当female 作形容词指人的时候，它更多地强调身体特性，如：the female voice (女声);指职业时，常用 woman，而不用 female，如：a woman teacher，而不说 a female teacher，(但指男性时则用a male teacher，不说 a man teacher)。当 female 作名词指 “女人” 时往往有贬义，所以最好用 woman，如：Who's the woman over there? (那边的那个女人是谁?);

【辨异】 female与woman和lady 均指妇女或女性。female 既可以指年幼的女孩，也可以指成年妇女，着重强调性别的区别，但除了用于统计等方面之外，该词常含有贬义 (见n (2));woman 指成年女子，如：a single woman (独身女人);lady 则指身分高贵，有教养，气质好的贵妇或淑女，如：She's quite a lady. (她真是一个淑女。)
