【辨异】1)alter与change和vary 都表示“改变”，且都可既用作vt，亦可用作vi;区别在于：change为常用词，可指任何改变;alter 则指小的局部的改变，如：alter a dress(改衣服)，试对比：change a dress(换衣服);vary 指暂时的或重复的改变，如：vary diet(变换饮食)。还有modify，这是正式场合用词，且仅可用作vt，指部份地改变结构或功能，如：modify a car for racing(改造一辆车用于赛事)。2)alter与adapt、adjust和accommodate的区别见ADAPT。
