【惯用法】 1) doubt用作v时，其否定式和疑问式后要接that从句;肯定式后通常接whether或if从句(有人认为whether比if好)，但也可接that从句，表示认为“……恐怕不会”的意思(见最后一例)。有时也可说：I～it to be true/him to be honest.(我怀疑这是真的/他是诚实的。) 2) doubt用作n 时，要注意介词的使用：一般用of和about都可以(但of的口气要强得多);下面情况下通常用about：① in doubt;② doubt为复数时。此外，其单数形式或一般地指怀疑的态度，或指怀疑的想法和感觉，而其复数形式则仅指怀疑的想法和感觉。doubt(单数)前有否定式时(见n(2))，其后接that从句，而不接whether从句，试对比：There is no～that he is guilty.(没有理由不相信他有罪。——即他肯定有罪。) There is some～(as to)whether he is guilty.(他是否有罪值得怀疑。)
