【辨异】defect与flaw、fault、mistake和error都可表示做得不正确或不恰当的地方。defect指各种不完美之处(可以是字面上的或喻义上的)，如：a defect in one's car/one's character(车子的毛病/性格上的缺点);flaw(疵点，缺陷)指结构上或制造中造成的质量欠缺，如：a flaw in a vase(花瓶上的疵点);fault(缺点;过错)也可指人或事物的不完美，但比defect轻，如：He has many faults.(他有许多缺点。) 还可指“过错”，强调人对错误应负的责任，如：It's my fautl.(这怨我。)另外两个词也指“错误”：mistake(错误，错事)最普通，用于日常情况，如：make a mistake(犯错误);error(错误)较为正式，如：an error of judgement(判断的错误)。
