雁形目鸭科(Anatidae)，北半球野生或驯养的水禽。包括鸭、鹅及天鹅。喙短，基部有瘤状突，向前渐尖。短脚有蹼。以草、谷类为食。野雁为候鸟。春秋成群迁飞时，成V字形队列，并高声鸣叫而过。家养的鹅起源于雁亚科(Anserinae) 的灰雁 (Anser) 、黑雁(Branta)。严格而言goose一词专指雌鹅，gander才是雄鹅。
