(3)击败，战胜(defeat or overcome (an enemy，rival，etc);win a victory)[T+n]：～an enemy in a war/a rival in a competition在战争中战胜敌人/在竞赛中击败对手;〖同〗defeat，beat;〖反〗lose;

【辨异】conquer与defeat和overcome都表示“获得胜利”或“控制对方”。conquer指经过一番努力击败系统的抵抗后得以控制，语体色彩较为正式，如：conquer a country(攻占一个国家);defeat(战胜，击败)表示打败对手，有时仅是暂时性的，如：defeat an enemy(打败敌人);overcome(克服，战胜)强调排除困难而胜对手，如：overcome opposition(制服反抗);还有subdue(征服，战胜)表示完全征服，使不再抵抗，如：subdue an uprising(镇压起义)。关于defeat与beat和win的区别参见 DEFEAT。
