(3)正式通过(批准)，接受(approve formally;accept)[T+n](BrE)：The board～ed the proposal after much debate.董事会经过多次辩论后采纳了那个建议。～a report/a resolution/a line/a state constitution/a new measure 正式通过一个报告/一决议/一路线/一州宪法/一新措施;

(4)提名……为候选人或代表(choose sb formally as a candidate or representative)[T+n+prep(as)]：He has been～ed as Labour/Liberal candidate for Manchester.他被提名为曼彻斯特的工党/自由党候选人。We have～ed Mr Jackson as our candidate at the next election.我们已提名杰克逊先生为下一轮选举的候选人。

【说明】由adopt派生的adopted和adoptive在使用上有分工：修饰孩子用adopted，如：one's adopted daughter(养女);修饰父母用adoptive，如：one's adoptive father(养父)。当然，还可说：one's foster-daughter/foster-son/foster-child/foster-mother/foster-parents/foster-sister/foster-brother等。

【注意】adopt意为“采纳(用)”，如：adopt Oriental customs(接受东方习俗)。adapt与其仅一个字母之差，是“适应”的意思，如：adapt(oneself)to Oriental customs((使自己)适应东方习俗)。
