【辨异】1)relation与relative都可表示“亲属(戚)”。但由于relation的意思比较多，因此在指“家人”时，为避免误解，最好用relative。2)relation与relationship都可表示“亲属关系”。如：A relation of mine is coming to stay.(我有个亲戚要来此暂住。)What's your relationship to her?(你跟她是什么亲戚?)relation和relationship还可以表示事物之间的相似之处或一致性，如：Some people say there is no relation/relationship between violence on television and crimes of violence.(有人说电视中的暴力镜头与生活中的暴力犯罪并无关系。)此外，relationship可以表示强烈的感情联系，如：Their relationship has lasted many years.(他们的感情已经有很多年了。)如果不是侧重个人的关系或友谊时，可用relations或relationship;如：We have no business relations with that firm.(我们与那家公司没有业务关系。)Britain has a unique relationship with USA.(英国与美国有着特殊的关系。)
