【辨异】attempt与try和strive都可表示为一目的付出努力。try(尝试，vi & vt)用得最普遍，如：try one's best(尽最大努力)，try to be early(尽量早些);attempt (vt)语体色彩更正式，常常指付出更大的努力;strive(奋力，努力，vi)指付出巨大的努力以完成艰苦困难的事情，如：strive mightily at a difficult task(奋力去完成一困难任务);还有endeavour(竭力，vt)指坚持不懈地努力(尤指面对困难)，如：endeavour to overcome obstacles(竭力克服障碍)。
