(2)在或进入(汽车、火车等)中(in or into(a train，etc))：travel～the plane/the coach/the tube 乘飞机/长途汽车/地铁旅行;We were sitting～the bus.我们坐在公共汽车里。We can have something to eat～the train.我们可以在火车上吃东西。

(8)接(靠)近(某时、地)(near;close to(a place or time)) (=upon)： guards～the frontier 边境上的哨兵;a dwelling～the lone seashore 荒凉海滨上的一所房子;a cottage～the lake 湖畔的村舍;trees～both sides of the street 街道两边的树;It is now just～post-time.现在正是发邮件的时间。This train never arrives～time.这班火车从来没有正点到达过。

(9)由于，因为(as a result of;because of)(=upon)：a careful opinion～full knowledge 在充分了解的基础上提出的慎重意见;O～his doctor's advice，he took a month's holiday.遵医嘱，他休了一个月的假。We congratulated her～her success.我们祝贺她获得成功。He was found guilty～the evidence of two women.根据两位妇女的证词裁决他有罪。

(10)(钱财上)依靠(supported financially by(sb/sth))：live～one's salary/one's savings/a pension/a grant/the dole 靠薪金/存款/养老金/补助/救济生活;He got to the university～a scholarship.他靠奖学金念大学。The next round of drinks is～me.下一巡酒我付钱。

(11)靠(用，借助于)(by means of(sth);using)：～the radio/the wireless/the television 通过无线电/无线电/电视;play～a trumpet/a piano 吹喇叭/弹钢琴;speak～the telephone 在电话中说;broadcast～the TV/the radio 在电视/收音机上播出;We play some music～the gramophone，and then we dance.我们先用留声机放音乐，然后跳舞。

(12)表示加上(尤指费用)(used to indicate an increase，esp of cost)(=upon)：There is always 10 percent～the bill for service. 总要按账单加收10%的服务费。There is a heavy tax～tobacco here.这里烟草的税很重。That placed further strain～the relations between the two countries.那使两国关系更加紧张。

(13)(表示活动、目的或状态)(used to indicate an activity，a purpose or a state)：～trial/show/parade/sale/loan/duty/holiday/strike 受审/展出/游行/出售/贷款/值班/休假/罢工;go on an errand出差;Are you here～business or for pleasure?你到这儿是出差还是旅游? The enemy are～the move again.敌人又在行动了。

(14)接连(following by)： heaps～heaps 一堆一堆地;company～company 一队一队地;He has had ill-luck～ill-luck.他碰上一件又一件倒霉事。Trouble～trouble followed his involvement with her.从他与她纠缠在一起以后，麻烦事接踵而来。
