(1)和，与，及，并，同(also;as well as;together with)(连接并列的同词性的词、短语、句子)：The boy～the girl started to shout～cry.那男孩和女孩开始又喊又叫。She was tired～hungry.她又累又饿。Read slowly～clearly.慢慢读，并且读清楚。They hunted for him high～low/day～night.他们到处/日日夜夜寻找他。They rest during the day～work at night.他们白天休息，夜晚工作。I said it～I meant it.我说了就算数。

(2)然后(and then;following this)(连接两个先后发生的行为)：She opened the door～went inside.她打开门走了进去。He read for an hour～went to bed.他读了一个小时书，然后就上床睡觉了。

(3)则，就(as a result of which)：(连接两个句子，前一个表示条件，后一个表示结果)：Try hard，～you will succeed.努把力，你就会成功。Work well，～you will be rewarded.好好干，你就会得到好处的。Utter a word，～you are a dead man! 你说一个字，就死定了!

(4)又，一再，反复(then again;repeatedly，increasingly)(连接两个相同的字)：They walked for miles～miles/hours～hours/days～days.他们走了很远很远/不知多少个小时/无数天。We tried～tried/ran～ran/laughed～laughed.我们试了又试/跑呀跑呀/笑呀笑呀。You work better～better/worse～worse/harder～harder/more～more.你工作得越来越好/越来越差/越来越努力/越来越多。They are getting nearer～nearer/longer～longer.他们越来越近/越来越长。Time～time again I told him to stop.我一再地告诉他停下来。

(5)表示目的(used instead of “to” of an infinitive)(连接两个谓语动词)：Come～sit down/have some tea/talk about it.来坐下/喝点茶/谈谈这事。Go～see him/buy one/post the letter.去看看他/买一个/寄这封信。Try～do it/find out/come soon.设法做这事/弄清楚/快来。Hurry up～open it! 快打开它! Wait～see.等着瞧。

(6)接着(also;then)(在句首引出一句子，表示接续上文)：A～he said to Moses.接着他对摩西说。It was a cold snowy night，～I had no money left for food.那是个寒冷的下雪之夜，我又身无分文去买食物。

(7)(表示同名事物的不同性质)(contrast-ing with)(连接相同名词)：There are bargains～bargains/rules～rules/books～books.便宜货有好有坏/制度跟制度不同/书有各种各样。

(8)加;零(in addition to;plus)(用于表示加法及数字hundred之后与1至99前(AmE中有时无))：2～2 makes/is 4.2加2等于4。two hundred～forty-four 244;two～a half years两年半;

(9)加，夹，配，涂(served with;covered or spread with)(用于食物名称中)：a ham～eggs 火腿(加)鸡蛋;meat～potatoes 肉配土豆;bread～butter(涂)黄油(的)面包;fruit～cream(浇)奶油(的)水果;a roll～cheese(抹)乳酪(的)面包卷;

and so forth/on等等：Others are interested in arts，and music，and books，～so on.还有的人爱好艺术、音乐、书籍等等。

【惯用法】非正式语体中，and可用在几个动词(如 go，come)后，连接另一动词，表示目的(相当于不定式的符号to，见用法(5));如与try连用时，以及在wait and see中，动词只能为动词原形，其他情况下可为过去式等，如：We stayed and had a drink.(我们留下来喝一杯。)
